Default Recognition for helping others

I don't know if this has been suggested before, but I think people ought to be honored with some sort of titles for helping other players through quests and missions. Most of the PvE titles right now involves playing long hours by yourself. I mean, where's the community spirit? The system I envision is simple: if a teammates of yours completes a quest or mission that you have completed already, you earn a certain number of assist points (depending on the difficulty level) going towards to an hierarchy of honorary titles. These titles won't bring any "tangible" benefits. They'll merely show up next to your name--or maybe there'd be something visual on your character (a halo?) that others can see.

ya I think the people who get on that guild wars list...(whats it called again? Something like kind of the week something like that) should have a title updated to thier account character who was on the list. Because you know what will happen if everyone hears about that title (o man this is good)
you ready for it?......MORE PEOPLE WILL BE KIND!!!!yup just to get that title they will help out as much as they need to before they get on the list.Good idea, im glad you brought it up.

I like the idea alot, except what about mission runners? They get money from it so it's not like they are "going out of their way" to help others. Maybe only if no money is transfered....
The halo idea is good, but something alot more subtle and not so oppressive on the chars figure. How about slighty glowing foot prints or something?

I had the same idea but I didnt get around to posting it. I figured the reward (points or whatever) would be based on the experience points you get from the quests or maybe some new reward could be given along with it in future chapters. It would have to be ones that you do not have active. There would have to be some type of way of knowing if you were there for the whole quest and not just in the party when they collect the reward. Thats the basic idea.

I already help guildies when I can, but dont know why ppl would help others outside their guild for any reasons other then a title.

/notsigned because just helping ppl to get a title isnt actually helping, its still playing for your own benefit.

I havnt had any problem getting 2 protectors titles from pugs and guild groups (still not completed NF) So there really isnt a reason for this title.

I regularly help guildies and sometimes random pugs with missions and such, but I don't think it needs a title. Most people help others just for the good feeling that you get from it, and it's enough of a reward in itself (plus all the extra loot you get while helping ).
If they make up a title for this, you'll just get a bunch of title-hunters that run through missions and quests without really interacting with others in the party.

A lovely idea, but leaves too much room for exploitation.

Basing it on XP makes sense and it's the easiest. Rewards of some kind might be good too, as it shifts the balance between the helper and helpee. Guild Wars is a game after all. Fun is the object. No one should feel as though they're accepting charity. And there're far too many self-important jerks around.

For quests, the points should be granted when the game recognizes that a quest is completed (when "Completed" shows up in the quest log). That should eliminate the ones where you just run to some place to speak to someone. Granting it when the other person get his rewards wouldn't work since he might just map back to town.

A system of any kind that rewards replay would help correct the "filtration effect" in the game. Because missions are hard to beat with groups missing certain roles (usually monks), players in these very roles are scarce because they get through relatively quicker. So ones end up wasting large amount of time waiting, GLF-ing.

You want to be recognised for helping others?

Isn't that a bit slefihs? When I help other I only ask them one thing: To ask another one themselves.

Exactly. That warm and fuzzy feeling you get is better than any title.

Do you really have no life that you have to do the same thing over and over again to help people with stuff just for a title? Seems like a huge waste of time, and if you're helping people to get a title instead of because you genuinely want to help someone, then I think you're doing it for the wrong reasons. Helping people shouldn't merit an award, unless any reward you get is your own personal gratification of knowing that you did a good job.

i think the reward should be a beam of light from the sky

that way it will be easier to find mission runners!

People should help, just for the sake of helping. Not for some title.

I'm gonna have to say no to a title such as this. The whole point of helping someone is not asking for recognition in return. If you help someone for your own benefit are you really, purposely trying to help them? Or simply trying to help yourself?

I'm with those who think helping others is the reward in itself. Wanting to get recognised for doing something good kinda cheapens the act of doing good itself.

No, dont want it. Sounds like a good idea but it's not really possible to put this in. I did many drok runs for free, and I never asked for a cent on any of them (will do more once i create a new build that works). How are u gonna give me credit for that?

So, you guys would rather give drunkards a title, and not to someone who actually helps others??

In real life, people do get volunteer award for being a good helper. The whole idea is to encourage people doing good deeds for someone else, for whatever reason. It surely beats those "running missions for 2k under 10 min." ads you see in many outposts, not to mention GW's community is notorious for being empathetic and immature. If you can give title rewards to people who do things for selfish reasons, there's no reason to be so stingy about giving recognition to someone who helps others.
